10/6/08 So talks broke down. Despite the fact that I never signed a
contract with these folks, never wanted to deal with them on a business level at
all, they never honored the rate that was on the contract. I apparently was
bound by the contract because they paid for it via some buyout thing. Then their
double talking lawyer gives me the " contracts are in place to protect both
parties......" Yeah, dude except I didn't sign the contract to deal with you.
Somehow you get the feeling that unless your the one writing the contract, odds
are that it's not offering any protection to you. That's the way it
goes these days, usually with the cell phone and cable companies. They lure you
in, big things they say. Cheap rate. It's all about getting the new customer.
Come one over, the grass is greener over here, free phone with all the bells and
whistles. Just sign the contract. Well how about a contract that
guaranties good service, timely answers or customer satisfaction. Instead you
get legal crud about how they going to be able to charge you what they want,
when they want and if you cancel a fee of twice the contract. Nice. May be I'm
to idealistic. The thought of voting with your dollar, doing business with
people who you want to. In the end I had to pay my fee and move on. I did get
the offer to switch back over and all would be forgotten. I thought about it for
a half a second and then sent them packing. (or hauling) I figured that it
was well worth the fee not to see them walk into my door. Though if they liked
they could come down and try to earn my business. Which they surprisingly said
they'd do. But I won't be holding my breath, since you can guarantee that I be
getting that fee back. All in all, though I really should be surprised. Just
look at the bail out. Just a bunch of bad contracts that were getting
bought and sold. Huh.
9/23/2008 Please note the Wed 9/24 we will be open 12pm-7pm.
Sorry for the inconvenience but one of the fine local hauling companies took
offence to us telling them to haul off. So we landed a little date with the
local peace maker on Wed. am. If any of you other business owners out
there have had any issues or find yourselves in a similar situation, send me a
e-mail or give me a call I'll let you know how it goes.
9-whatever. So updates haven't been a strong point in the news
section. Don't kick me yet, many of the 09 stuff has been added to the site.
That has kept me bust enough so I haven't had time for the commentary. Perhaps
it's the fact that 3 months ago my wife pulled the plug on the Cable, though we
still have the pie plate on the roof. (AT&T if you need it back, feel free to
hop on up there and retrieve it.) Without the stream of useless info
coming in at a steady rate, I seem the be lacking the fuel for the fire of
social commentary. Though I have slipped and peaked at the news once it a
while, lately it's got to be a bit worrisome for all you consistent viewers.
Perhaps if the media hadn't been chanting to the beat of doom and gloom, firing
up the mobs worrying about their property values, Lehmen Brothers may still be
around. I heard someone mention that "consumer confidence is low" when
your fed a daily dose of what most media is dishing you can't help but wonder if
the media isn't part of the problem and not just a eye on the situation. I'll
put my head back in the sand. Besides, we're about bikes. As I've
said before, if you want to save money, Ride a Bike....one time...every time...
you decide. Can't load a bike like shopping cart SUV at costco......see you've
saved already. Oil heat costing you too much...if your like me, put that
indoor trainer in the basement, within 8 minutes your appreciate that sub 60 deg
temperature. The number of ways to save are enormous. I've found that many
people save with out even knowing, the most popular way is the "bicycle clothing
dryer". (and it's similarly used cousin the home fitness bike) Just hang those
shirts on the bars and bamm in a day or two they're dry. No fancy moist, front
loading, 7 pre-programed cycle, fancy dryer necessary. Let the saving begin.
7/1/2008 Hill Hundred this Friday for a preview or to see the course click
here. All the stats are there. The only thing to note is that the
pre-ride did not include the loop over to Treasure Hill. So add 7 miles or so
and another 800ft of elevation gain or so. Besides if it were included in
the pre-view you'd have nothing to look forward to.
6/whatever/08 Yes it's finally another up date. Check out the link for
the TCR(on the left) to see what Giant has in store for 09, but official release
in not until after August. Specialized is doing some redesign and early
release of the 09's. We've got a few listed under the multi-bike category.
Campagnolo is in on the act of redesigning, apparently the best defense is a
good offence so they've upped the ante to
11speed. On a more fun note, time is ticking down to the annual
Hilly 100. I was
quite dismayed to find out that some folks in the Midwest have their own
Hilly 100, oh sure they have t-shirts
and charge a fee, but hills in Indiana? Two days. Okay so this is the 41st
annual and we're having our 9 or some such occurrence, but let the profile speak
for itself. One hundred mile over 10,000ft of climbing and we'll be
done for beer and hot dogs. E-mail with any questions. 7/4 (Friday) 6:30meet
wheels roll at 7:00am.
In case any of you haven't checked out
BikeSnobNYC. Here
is a recent goodie.
Recently, while checking in on the Craigslist Missed
Connections (for the blog, I swear, for the blog!) I happened upon the
following post:
MC with bike partner/mentor - 25 (Williamsburg)

Posting here since I don't think people read the platonic section and
everyone loves missed connections.
I am a 25 year old female, just bought my first road bike (!) and it should
be ready to roll next Monday (getting fixed up this week). I am looking for
someone to ride with at least a few times, from williamsburg to battery park
(or at least to the east river green path) so I can get the hang of it since
I am a little nervous, esp. about getting off the w'burg bridge in traffic
and finding the green path. I am just trying to avoid doing dumb things that
might get me into the BikeSnobNYC blog and/or get me killed.
I can leave pretty much anytime from 6:30AM to 9:30AM. I live near the
Graham L. This is probably really uncool but I don't care... I don't know
anyone else that rides a bike regularly here.
This is not a dating ad, so whoever you are: whatever, just be nice and not
creepy!
Thanks!
For all my derision, the last thing I’d want to do is discourage someone
from riding a bike. If anything, I’d like to think I poke fun at the things
that are actually barriers of entry to new cyclists, and not at new cyclists
themselves. I’d also like to think it’s a good thing that someone might be
afraid of both winding up on this blog and being killed, because some of the
things I make fun of actually can get you killed. (Brakeless bike-salmoning,
for example.) So with the bike boom in full, uh, boom, and with as many
young people as ever moving to the trendier neighborhoods of various urban
centers and thinking of taking up the filthy cycling habit, I think it’s
worth taking a look at the barriers of entry to new cyclists so we can
steamroll right through them and get more people riding:
Fear
The new or aspiring cyclist is afraid of many things. Among them are:
looking stupid; getting lost; getting harassed by automotive traffic; and of
course injury. Sure, fear is natural, but when it keeps you from doing
something there’s really no reason not to do it becomes a problem. Being
afraid of cycling is like feeling guilty about sex, except one keeps you
from getting on and the other keeps you from getting off. But how do you
lose the fear?
Paradoxically, you lose it by accepting the fact that every one of the
things you’re afraid of will happen to you. You know what? You will look
stupid. We all looked stupid on a bike at first. We all put on a jersey that
was two sizes too big, pulled on our first pair of cheap half-shorts, tied
our sneakered feet to our plastic pedals with some nylon straps, shifted
into the small ring up front and the small cog out back, and let our dork
flags fly. Not only that, but every one of us, no matter how experienced,
still looks stupid today--maybe not to our riding buddies or respective
cliques, but certainly to the world at large. The fixter looks stupid to the
roadie; the roadie looks stupid to the mountain biker; the mountain biker
looks stupid to the recumbent rider; and the recumbent rider looks stupid to
everyone. And all of us look stupid to the non-cyclist. No matter who you
are or what you’re doing, you look stupid to somebody. We’re all a bunch of
preening, posturing, self-deluded roosters. Embrace it.
You’ll also get lost. It will probably be raining when it happens, too. Yes,
you’ll be a lost, wet, cold, stupid-looking person, and you’ll be miserable.
But it’s not that bad. You’ll find your way home again, you’ll learn some
new roads, and you’ll be better for the experience. As J. Peterman said,
being lost is “the best way to get someplace you've never been.” And in my
experience with being lost, that place is often in New Jersey.
“But what about the cars?,” you may ask. “Surely I should fear the cars.”
Well, you should be aware of the cars, and you should know that many of them
are driven by people so stupid they can barely operate them, but you should
not fear them. Rather, you should know them and understand them. You’re at a
distinct advantage because, being stupid, most drivers are easy to figure
out. It won’t take you long to anticipate their stupid behavior in the same
way you can usually figure out what your dog is about to do next. Oh, and
don’t let them bully you. Ignore the beeping. A driver honks to express one
of three things: 1) I want you to get out of my way; 2) I want you to go
faster; 3) I just don’t like you. The correct response to all of these is,
“I don’t give a fuck.” Drivers don’t honk when they’re about to kill you
because when they kill you it’s because they didn’t see you.
“Yeah, but cars or no cars, I might get hurt.” Hey, you will get
hurt, I promise. But you can also get hurt eating a bagel, watching “Night
Court” reruns, or masturbating. (Especially if you attempt all three at
once.) It doesn't mean you shouldn't do them. Lieutenant Frank Drebin of
Police Squad said it best: “You take a chance getting up in the morning,
crossing the street or sticking your face in a fan.” So go ahead, stick your
face in the fan and get on your bike.
Fitness
Another reason people are apprehensive about riding bicycles is that they
perceive it as being difficult. The fact is that it’s only as difficult as
you make it. Unfortunately, though, most people are completely delusional
when it comes to cycling. Many cyclists think that they’re just a pair of
Zipps, a Cervelo, and a few expensive coaching sessions away from going pro.
Similarly, many non-cyclists don’t bother because they think it takes
strength, dedication, and training to be a good cyclist. The reality is that
both types of people are completely delusional—the cyclist is much weaker
than he thinks he is, and the non-cyclist is much stronger than he thinks he
is. So just get on the bike and have fun at whatever speed you choose. The
fitness will happen by accident.
Equipment
Any long-time cyclist has been asked thousands of times by non-cyclists for
recommendations as to what kind of bicycle to purchase. And, because they’re
cyclists and consequently compulsive and anal, they probably gave
thoughtful, intelligent, and highly-detailed responses that flew over the
person’s head like
a pie plate-hating milking goose. This is because buying a new bike is
like sex in that it’s impossible to get right the first time. Nobody can
tell you how to do it. You’ve got to make your mistakes yourself.
Of course, if you’re considering a new bike purchase, you should do your
homework, you should ask people for advice, and you should shop around. But
you should also realize that since you’re not a cyclist yet you haven’t
learned what kind of cyclist you are yet either, so you don’t know what kind
of bike you need. Just jump in, buy what you can afford and what makes sense
at the time, and try to ask a reasonable price when you put it on Craigslist
six months later to buy the bike you now know you need.
Fashion
If I’m hard on the fashionistas and the gear whores, it’s because I think
one of the greatest obstacles to new cyclists is the uniform and equipment
it seems necessary to own in order to join in the fun. From the outside
you’d think you can’t own a fixed-gear bike without having full sleeves and
a HED tri-spoke, and that you can’t own a road bike without having an SRM
and a pair of wheels that costs over $1,000. And in either instance, it
would appear to the non-cyclist that you certainly can’t be a cyclist
yourself without having the right friends. As a commenter said yesterday to
me:
Let's see your bikes. Let's see your face. Let's see your friends, your
music and everything else. No, that would be too much. Then you wouldnt have
anything to write about because people could rip you to shreds.
Guess what? You don’t have to have friends or listen to music to be a
cyclist. All you have to do is ride your bike. (Okay, and maybe
own a floor pump.) And the friends, like the fitness, will follow. Some
people neither seek approval nor fear disapproval. Cycling doesn't have to
be about who you know and what you ride. It's about who you are and that you
ride. I find it interesting that the person who wrote the above Craigslist
post is looking for riding partners online because “I don't know anyone else
that rides a bike regularly here.” Hmmm, Williamsburg is in many ways the
home of “bike culture.” Gee, could it be this “bike culture” is not as
welcoming and inclusive as it thinks it is? And could it be the "bike
culture" is not riding its bikes as much as it says it is?
One of the greatest things about cycling is you can do it with 10,000 people
or you can do it alone. And you don’t need to engage in the “secret
handshake” of name-dropping, proper equipment usage, and wardrobe in order
to do it. Choose a group, choose a fashion, or don’t, it doesn’t matter.
So after all this, why would you still want to become a cyclist? Well, if
nothing else, you’ll never, ever be bored again. There will no longer ever
be a daunting empty window of time in your day, as you’ll always have
something to fill it with. Even if you’re all by yourself.
(By the way, if you're nice and not creepy, email this person and go for a
ride.)
3/What?/08 Ohhh yeah, it's been a while since I been here, on the web that
is. In the store....oh 70+ hours. Spring is a coming although it's taking it's
fine sweet time of it. Usually we get a few teaser days in there. You know those
65deg days that leave you longing for the days of summer. Sure the dusting of
snow that occurs 2 days after is a downer. The good news is that I have actually
seen the Daffodil shoots reaching through the salty leaf strewn ditches on the
sides of the roads, so Spring must be close. As far as shop news goes
things are sure different around here. We've picked up a new line, dare I
mention it, since the slightest utterance of the word bring fear into the hearts
of other vendors. (and they threatened to take away my birthday.) None the
less, dare I say there are a lot of choices for bike in the store.
1/18/2008 Take what I said about the Canadian Dollar and throw that out. I
did a little research into exchange rates and those Canucks were pushing even
for while there. All things said it's better than the Euro.
12/7/2007 Look another month has gone by since I last had the pleasure of
putting my 2 cents out there. If you in Europe or Canada it may only be worth 1
cent. Christmas is just around the corner, if you can get there. Tonight's first
snowfall has all but paralyzed Danbury. The City found out that it's impossible
to plow the roads if they are covered with a heavy layer of cars. The solution,
shut the in-ramps for the highway to keep the cars off. Uh, it's Friday night,
Christmas shoppers, commuters. A smart entrepreneur would have been out there
with a cart full of some "spiced" egg-nog to dull the frustration at $2 a cup.
It just didn't look like fun out there on the roads tonight. Tomorrow they
forecasted a high of 45, my how things turn. Of course today was 20% chance of
light snow. Honestly, not too many taker's on the Holiday Gift baskets, so we've
added some other interesting items to the Monthly specials
page. Just fill my stocking with some Gorilla coffee and I'm good to go.
Here are a few other new fun items to come check out when you get a chance.
11/5/2007 Finally some cold weather, I suppose it was inevitable.
Funny how 50 degrees feels so cold, but we be celebrating it in February. We'll
be updating the web site over the next 30 days to try to get all the updates and
new product information on line. Sure it takes us a bit longer than some,
but we opted not to have one of those cookie cutter web sites you see from other
bike shops. You know that title bar, products and service stuff all listed down
the side, just cut and paste your name here, and download from the database.
Sure you can see the entire line of brand X on the site, but that doesn't mean
that they have it in the store. Not that it all means that much, to me it
just means that if your going to do it, I want it done a certain way that no one
else is going to take the time to do. If your not going to put your heart
in it, and really isn't that what the internet is all about. Telling people
about your self. Why cookie cutter your site. Cheap and easy.....
You do find some interesting things out on other sites if you really sit down
and start to take a look. I found a picture of a bike (a brand we sell) on a web
site. The bike was a fairly expensive bike, about $2000. Sure it's a lot
but considering the website that had the picture has bikes selling for up to
$6000+. The picture was just the bike hanging from a scale with caption
underneath that read something like , a 21lbd. carbon fiber road bike. Like it
was astonishing that a carbon road bike could weigh 21lbs with saddle bad and
all. Perhaps there is some unwritten rule that all bikes made of carbon cannot
be above a certain weight. I've never had the weights and measures department in
my store, but the next time I see them at the pumps at the Citgo I'll have to
remember to ask them. Perhaps the thought of having a carbon road bike
because it rides better and unlike a metal doesn't transmit high end vibration
very well, has just not crossed anyone's mind. Perhaps a solid dependable,
pocket friendly choice of components has no place on a carbon road frame, I
don't know. I guess the point of the picture mixed in with all the other super
exotics, costing twice as much was lost on me. I put that in this weeks
trash, with the news of the "Housing Crisis", but I won't get started on that.
Anyhow as the season winds down, check back when you can, you never know what
you may find. Just a little tid-bit, because I know there aren't too many die
hard readers out there. Did you know last year for months we had a link on the
site for some freebees. I didn't advertise it, but I figured some nosey body
would click on it and win a pair of Mavic wheels. Nope. At one point we even had
10% off your next purchase printing out on the receipts at the store, no one I
can think of read the bottom of the receipt either. 2008 is a new year,
keep your eyes open folks.....All the best.
10/15/2007
THIS SATURDAY!!!!! Better than a garage sale!
Let the Re-Opening Celebration begin. For those of
you that have questions, here's the scoop. This Sat. all day at the store (52
Division St. ) stop by share some stories, check out the new store. If
everyday could be a party this would be it. We're gonna work, our customers and
friends are going to party. We'll be cutting some deals, giving away some
bikes and over all just having a good time. There is a ride scheduled for 11:30-
2:00pm (www.zephyrcycling.com) Many
of our food friends have been working overtime to help us out. Coffee from
Gorilla and New England Espresso, baked goods and bread from Ovens of France.
Ancona's for the liquid goods. You never know what we might come up with....So
come on down and check it out.
10/what?/07 Hot, how'd it get so hot for October. The 20th is coming fast,
if you missed it, that is the day of the Grand Re-opening. It still might be
tight we don't quite have the new bike racks that we have ordered, but we're
crossing our fingers. That won't slow us down on the celebration side of things
too much. We really hope everyone will come on out and at least stop by and say
"hi". We in the midst of planning a Sat morning group ride. I'll post the
detail on the site in a day or two. We be serving up coffee and goodies all day.
It should be a lot of fun.
9/15/2007. We did it. It's all over, but the crying. For all those of you
that missed the fact that we moved and didn't personally tell you, I apologize.
None the less we're in. For all of you that haven't stopped by yet we hope that
you will for the grand re-opening party. I think that it will answer that
nagging question of " So, why did you move?". Although there was a
few days I asked my self the same question, and promptly replied to myself
because of month of little sleep and twice as much stress is so much fun.
Just this second while typing, it has been decided that the date for the
Grand-Re-opening party is to be October 20th. It's a Saturday, make no plans,
invite your friends, it shall be fun.
8/15/2007 Oh Snap! Have we been busy the upcoming move has just been
added stress. I may loose a few years on this one. So much to do, trying to get
organized all while simultaneously trying to run the day to day stuff. All said
and done August 26th should be our last day in full operation at the current
store. That leave us the rest of the month to clean out our old space. That
leads me to the next bit of business, OUR MOVING SALE.
That's right you heard it here and only here. Anything we have in inventory
we're willing to negotiate. If you've had your eye on a bike, if we have it in
inventory we want to move it. We will also be selling TOOLS, WORKBENCHES,
DISPLAYS, whatever doesn't go to the new store is for sale.
7/28/2007 July is flying by. We've been slowly getting the new store
together. I think the end is in sight, but I'm sure there will be a head ache or
two before we're all said and done. The Exterior is getting some work while we
finish the final touches to the interior. As it looks we'll be moving through
out this month and hope to be fully operational by the first of September.
7/14/2007 Sure, not a lot posts, but hey we made it past another
Friday the 13th. The highlight of the week was that CL&P came out and installed
a new telephone pole. It may not sound like much but to us it means that were a
whole lot closer to being able to turn on the power at the NEW Store.
That's right I said it , WE'RE MOVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Everyone's
first question seems to be "Is is Bigger", well no not really, it is better laid
out. Quite honestly it was less expensive than renovating the current space. For
all you concerned folks that are wondering where, well you can see the building
from the back door of our store. I think it's easier than the current store to
get to since you don't have to deal with the intersection in front of the
current store. I think we're going to have to have some sort of Garage
Sale to rid ourselves of some clutter before we go. So check back here in a bit,
if you looking for any parking stands, tools, and assorted misc stuff that
accumulates in a bike store for 15-20years.
6/16/2007 I looked back at the past posts, the first thing that came
to mind was how I had time in the past to keep up with the website. Lately
things have been so busy the website updates have consistently gotten reshuffled
to a lower spot on the list of things to do. Any how BIG Things are a coming.
More on that in a minute. On the business front, the season is moving
along well. I think that the weather has been outstanding, I usually feel that
we never have enough days in the 70's, it always seems to go right from 58 to
88. At least to me, and my electric bill. For those of you out
getting in those rides I'd encourage you to check out
Hammer Nutrition's
line of products. We've been using it for a while and it got quite a reputation
for good quality and is easy on the stomach. Check out the we site for all the
products, they make a product for any need. Or favorite big "S"
Specialized had decided to call 2007 early and start shipping many of the 08
models already. Really they've sold through most of the 07 product and need to
fill the voids with the 08 goodies.
Okay now on to the fun, for those of you that have
checked out the site before, you probably noticed that we had a counter on the
site for a while. truth be told there just wasn't enough time on the counter to
make it all happen. Sometime you get the feeling that progress is the biggest
obstacle. We still have a few hurdles to deal with, but it's getting close. The
best estimation is August. Just to give you a little more insight here's a few
shots of the mess. One,
two. We really excited about the
change and I think that everyone else will be too. Still there is a lot of
things to get finished, but it's coming together. There's only one
question "Have you seen the light?"
4/2/2007 I suppose I'll skip the usual April fools stuff, There is enough of
that on the web these days anyway. One interesting thing that I've found out
recently is that youtube.com actually has a redeeming quality, I have found that
all the bike races that they never show on US television are available to view.
At first I thought is stunk that I had to watch in 9min segments. But it's a bit
like "Clifs notes" for bike racing, you can just watch the important moves that
shape the race and skip the long chases, commercials and useless commentary.
Just what I need another time sink. I think when you log on to one of those
sites, Mocrosoft sends an electronic signal to my clocks to run faster than
normal. Next thing you know it's 2:30am an buying something from an info-mercial
or e-bay seems like a good idea. In the past week or so lots of new
goodies have hit the shelves. FOX Racing shorts and helmets have come in. If you
been eyeing a pair check them out, last year they ran out of many popular sizes.
I think the new Sergeant short is
going to be the hot short this year. Check out the new Fox helmet on the
products page. We still have a few
killer deals on some of the full carbon bikes from Giant. The pricing on these
bikes was already great, but the ones and twos have to go, so lets deal.
In other news if you haven't heard Tom Boonen (QuickStep) has been running
everyone over in his race to finishline on his Specialized Tarmac. Rumor has it
they are building him a special one. I thought the 150mm stem was a bit much on
the old one, and hey I think he's done enough to earn it. On that note
Specialized is making all of the Team Stuff available to the consumers. You
could be rock'n it like
Bettini or step up onto the podium sporting a set of
these. All of that is
fine and well, but my
Umpa-lumpa is scheduled to ship next week some time. I had some favors to
call in, as the bike is nearly sold out already. I'll try to keep you all up to
speed on it when it comes in. I know it has Shimano down the side but I've been
down with the SRAM Force group. It's going to be a long week.
3/what?/07 Oh yeah it's been a while since the last update. There's
been a few headaches trying to get the site updated. Apparently web hosting is a
lot like cell phone service, you're better off being a new customer rather than
a "legacy" one. The web hosting provider kept raising the cost of hosting, due
to the fact that we were on an old server. It should be noted that they don't
tell you this till there is a problem. Then after numerous calls and ridiculous
hold times, you finally get someone with enough common sense to tell you that if
you just upgrade your service package you'll get twice the server space at 2/3's
the cost. My only question was, where was this Mr. Helpful a year ago?
None the less, we're off the phones and back at the keyboard. Just in time
too, I can feel it, next week, 40's, 50's yeah we're going all the way. Funny,
but I remembered last Sept. when the temperature dropped to the 50 and I walked
around bundled up like the next ice age was upon us. Yesterday, I stood outside
happy that it was above freezing, 33deg, and sunny. Daylight savings is tonight,
warm weather is right around the corner, guaranteed I'm going to get some nasty
flu bug that will drop me.
For those brave enough to get out of the house on Sunday mornings the Spring
Training Series has started. The anual races over in Francis J Clark Industrial
Park kicked off last Sunday. The Central Park Series started last Sunday as
well, though this week with the time change that 6:30am start time is going to
be a big hurdle. You can bet half the race will be done in the dark.
2/17/07 Just released!!! Following the wave of 29", single speed,
fully rigid, and track bike popularity. Giant has incorporated all the latest
trends into one new model. Delivery time is still a bit up in the air, but
expect these to sell out fast. (Uber-cycle)
2/14/07 Happy Valentines Day to you all out there. Lots of that dreaded
white stuff out there. Hummmm warm fire, snow, hot coco......yeah Valentines
day. I can even claim "hazardous weather" and skip the obligatory
dinner out and just stay home all warm and cozy. This might not be
so bad after all.
Still serious business is under foot the Spring Race
series is just a scant 2 and 1/2 weeks away. Oh, damm I hope it warms a
bit. These last few weeks have been a bit rough. Somehow my skin has become oh
just that much thinner in my old age that sub-32deg temperatures seem to sting a
bit more than I remember. Thank goodness for those nasty devices called
"Indoor trainers". If any of you out there have any questions
regarding fit, training, nutrition or anything else February is a great time to
come down an we can help you work though them
1/20/2007 Winter is finally here. Not that I was missing it all that much.
The poor folks at the ski areas can't be too happy about it, or those die hard
skiers for that matter. I know of at least one person that was ready to start
shaking out the ice tray in the backyard just to get in a turn or two.
As far as bike matters go, Giant has just release the rest of their 2007
line up, and we'll be getting those posted very soon. Parlee is going ahead with
the Z4 project. The frame is
based off of the proven Z3 design, but with molded head tube junctions.
Delivery is expected mid to late spring. We've brought in the
Serfas Line of accessories. They've got a
great line up of pumps, grips, seats and some new tires that are worth checking
out. If you get a chance check out the eyewear. They come with 4 sets of lens on
most models and you can't beat the prices. The good old boys at
Adidas decided to
ship us the spring stuff a little early this year, so we've got a lot of the new
shorts and jerseys available and on display. The shorts have upgraded chamois
and you won't pass out at the pricing. The upper end bib shorts won't be
available till a little later, but then again the warm weather won't be here
till then anyway. Speaking of waiting, the Enduro
SL should be hitting the floor by the end of the month, give a call if you'd
like to check one of these out.
I stumbled upon this little gem the other day. Now I'm not a conspiracy
theory type of person, but I had some questions when it all went down. How do
two buildings randomly hit by airplanes fall perfectly into the basement as well
at WC#7 that wasn't hit by anything. The downside is that if you start thinking
about it, if you buy into one part you're going to find that your eating the
whole nasty sandwich. (911)
It's a bit lengthy, but guaranteed to make you go Hmmmmm.
That's enough to chew on for the moment, besides I need to leave something
for next time. All the best.
1/5/2007 Ahh, 007 that explains all the Bond marathons clotting up my
satelite stations. As far as riding goes I can say we're off to a pretty good
start to the year, record temperatures and all. I like snow as much as the next
guy, but I must admit that I like it a few hours north of here, I can live with
out the frozen white stuff piled knee deep in the driveway or blowing down the
back of my neck. You've got to feel bad for the ski areas, do they sell "no snow
insurance"? If you can't ski, ride!
As I mentioned in the last post we have some of the best customers. So I'd
like to take a minute to get the word out for a customer that is riding across
the US for Journey of Hope. His fraternity gets together every year to make the
trek with proceeds going to help those with disabilities. If you'd like to check
out the event click here.
